In 2002 when Teutonic winemaker, Barnaby Tuttle, was a restaurant wine buyer in Portland he was introduced to importer, Ewald Moseler who showed him how expressive German Riesling could be. Fifteen years later, Teutonic is on the forefront of winemaking in Oregon with an affinity for colder sites, higher elevation, and dry-farmed vines that are ideally 30 years or older. Barnaby produces roughly 6,000 cases each year, all varieties that are typical to Germany’s Mosel region. This 2019 Pig & Swords is a blend of Pinot Noir, Muller Thurgau and Chasselas. It is lightly hued with pretty perfume, tangy acidity, and candied fruit.
