The Steininger estate is 25 sustainably farmed hectares situated in the wine growing village of Langenlois in the Kamptal. The Kamp Valley offers a perfect combination of soil and climate to produce wines with finesse and impressive diversity. Vineyards laced with loess, clay and gravel, coupled with warm days and cool nights during the growing season provide the perfect environment for balance and crystal-clear, mineral character in wines made from Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, Cabernet and more. It is here that Karl and Brigitta Steininger, along with their children famously craft sparkling wines in the traditional method, along with more than a dozen still wines each year, and over 50% of their production is devoted to Grüner.
Among the many delicious Steininger Gruners, their Steven Holl Loisium label paints the finest picture of culture and tourism in Langenlois. Named after a luxury wine resort, spa and cellars built on the Steininger property in 2005, and the architect whose blueprint drawings are seen on the label, this 2016 Kamptal Reserve is as polished and pristine as the Loisium itself.  It is a single vineyard bottling fermented in tank and aged on the lees for six months before release. With a fine texture, fleshy, ripe fruit and a touch of exotic spice, this is a white to pair with almost anything from pasta and seafood salads, to fried chicken, veal and grilled sausages. While it will cut through fatty and salty dishes to refresh the palate, you can also enjoy Gruner's purity and aromatic charm on a sunny patio with nothing but time, a nice chill and a good book.
