From an absolutely incredible site (and Napa's best spot for Zinfandel) on the top of Mt. Veeder -- this is a wine 2 times resurrected! The 2014 harvest was interrupted by a 6.0 earthquake who’s epicenter was just five miles from the winery. Then in 2017, while the wine was still aging in the cellar, Sky Vineyards lost some buildings and vines to the devastating Glen Ellen Fires. They have spent the last 3 years rebuilding, and this is the first release since those fires. Skyla and her father Lore Olds are farmers first and foremost, with a very minimalist approach to the fruit: hand-harvested and fermented in open top 1 ton bins. Punch down is performed by hand three times per day. After fermentation, it is pressed in a traditional basket press and aged in French oak barrels. They seem to want to get 100% out of the way, and let the wines shine through. (Even with all that drama -- they succeed!)
