Poe Pinot Nouveau Sonoma Mountain 2019
Samantha Sheehan founded POE in 2009 after being inspired by the wines she tasted in Burgundy and Champagne. Her winemaking philosophies include minimal intervention, judicious use of sulfur, and never any additives. POE produces traditional Champagne method sparkling wines, rosé, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a nouveau from Pinot Noir. Each wine is made in very limited quantities. Sam's Nouveau is the wine that started the American Nouveau trend and we're lucky to have secured a tiny 2019 allocation.
The grapes that went into this wine were handpicked at the van der Kamp Vineyard on top of Sonoma Mountain. Whole clusters of the grapes were placed into a portable fermentor and sealed for six weeks. In absence of oxygen, the grapes undergo carbonic maceration and malo at the same time, resulting in a delicate and fruity wine, with aromas of rose petals and strawberry. The wine was bottled in October and is meant to be enjoyed in its youth. Open this among your first bottles on Thanksgiving and serve it somewhat chilled (15 minutes in the refrigerator should do the trick).
