Hop on a plane from southern Portugal to experience a more rugged and arid wine area influenced by the Mediterranean climate. Spain’s Montsant wine appellation is located in the northeastern corner, two hours southwest of Barcelona. It is the second most mountainous region in Europe. (Yes, only Switzerland has more mountains.) Montsant vines grow on pinyolet soil, limestone pebbles unique to the DO. Pinyolet Garnacha exemplifies the open, fresh style of reds found in Montsant. The old vines are dry farmed and sustainably grown in pinyolet, highlighting an element of minerality and brightness. In the winery, organic practices are meticulously followed. The wine is aged over 6 months in french oak. There are uplifted floral and fruit tones, notable acidity, tension, and elegance. Dense red berry fruit intermix with earth and dried herbs in a medium- to full-bodied.
Enjoy Pinyolet with grilled eggplant or ribs.
