Del Mono (meaning 'from the monkey') comes to life in a formerly abandoned bodega located in Argentina. Once owned by Italian immigrants, 'The Monkey's Place', as locals now call it, houses a collaborative winemaking facility that focuses on the unique and diverse aspects of organic village fruit from different growers in the Tupungato region of Mendoza. Winemaker Matias Michelini is noted for his innovative style of winemaking, and this bottling is an excellent example of his craft.
Combining 50% Malbec and 50% Syrah, the unusual blend radiates bright ruby red color in the glass. On the nose, brambly blackberry, dark raspberry, black pepper and mocha are underscored by a touch of minerality. A substantial palate offers up a fine grained texture and good concentration of chocolate, juicy dark berry, pepper and spice flavors, finished with a dusting of cocoa powder. This is a bit of sophisticated winemaking at a very reasonable price - great with grilled meats and charcuterie.
