The Calì family established themselves in Vittoria, in southwestern Sicily in the 1700s, where their agricultural estates were involved in viticultural and the production of olive oil. In 2001 Paolo’s father gifted him the “baglio” (Sicilian for fortified farmhouse) in Contrada Salmè near Vittoria in the province of Ragusa and the first few acres of vines were replanted. At present 37 acres are planted to indigenous grapes in the heart of one of the most interesting appellations in Sicily. Farming is organic, yields are low and painstaking care is taken in the vineyard to ensure the health of the vines. This 100% Grillo is clean as a whistle with fresh orchard fruit, citrus and almond aromas. Vibrant nectarine flavors and hint of Mediterranean herbs makes the 2017 Blues a perfect match with fresh seafood and high acid, tangy cheeses.
