McPherson Cellars x Queens English "The Queen" Skin Contact Viognier 2019
One evening, Sarah Thompson, owner of Queens English Restaurant convinced Texas vigneron Kim McPherson, famous for his High Plains Rhone and Spanish styled wines, to make a skin-fermented white. His reply was, "Oh, Sarah, I make classic wines, I don't do that cloudy stuff." Three bottles of wine later, “the Queen” was born. Kim’s attractive 2019 wild yeast fermented Viognier spends eleven days on the skins followed by four months in neutral French oak with full malolactic fermentation. Aromas of white flowers, tropical fruit, citrus pith, and bitter almond lead to a finish so vibrant and generous, it begs you to take another sip.
