Macanita Tinto Douro Valley 2018
The color is a deeply saturated violet, and the nose is redolent of black and blue fruit tinged with violets and wet stone. The palate is rich and balanced, with velvety tannins and fresh acidity brightening the dark blueberry and plum fruit. The finish is long and spicy, with a big dose of purple flowers and minerals.
Fifty-five percent Touriga Naçional, 25% old vine field blend from 80+year old vines, and 20% Sousao planted to schist soils at 328-1,312 foot elevation. The Sousao vines range in age from 20-80+ years old. Antonio and Joana preserve the intrinsic richness and power of the Douro while showcasing balance, minerality, and elegance. The oak is well integrated, with depth and complexity.
