Leone de Castris Five Roses Rosato Salento 2019
This is the oldest winery in Italy and was founded in 1665 by an emigrating Spanish Duke to Puglia, the heel of Italy. In the modern era, it was the first winery to bottle an Italian rosato during the end of World War II. In partnership with US General Charles Poletti the wine name was Anglicized and exported to the US. The first bottling was done in empty beer bottles as the glass factories were destroyed. This legendary wine is produced from the native Negroamaro grape and offers aromas and flavors of flowers, wild strawberries and fresh citrus with slightly darker hues.
