Janko Bas Prokupac Smederevo 2017 - Serbia
For most wine drinkers, Serbia remains an unknown, but the last decade has seen fast-paced and exciting changes in viticultural. Near the Danube River, sits the modest 3.5 hectare Janko vineyard, founded in 2006. The property is located in the most famous Serbian vineyard area – Smederevo. Prokupac (pronounced Pro-kuh-patz) is the key indigenous red variety here and this 2017 “Bas” is crafted from 15 year old vines growing in clay soils. It offers complex aromas of freshly ground coffee, ripe cherries and mint with cool notes of wet earth and leaves.
