Located in the Mendocino County appellation of Yorkville Highlands, Halcón Vineyards overlook Anderson Valley and the Pacific beyond. At 2,500 feet, it is one of the highest vineyards in California. The northerly location, ocean exposure and altitude combine to produce a climate remarkably similar to France’s Northern Rhône. The 2016 Esquisto is the estate’s Rhone blend—a mix of mostly Grenache with smaller amounts of Mourvedre and Syrah. Ripe and meaty, this earthy wine offers serious intensity and tannic structure with notes of blackberry, blueberry, peppery herbs, earth-driven aromas and flavors and an abundance of fruit—perfect for Fall grilling, hearty dishes and aged cheeses.
