John Lockwood and Amy Sees started Enfield Wine Co. as a side project in 2010 when John was working full time at Failla Wines in Napa. Since then, their production has grown from a few hundred cases to more than 2,400 with their wines receiving positive attention from critics. They plumb more obscure terroirs, like Wild Horse Valley, and source unexpected varieties planted in oddball sites, like Cabernet Sauvignon from Waterhorse Ridge on the extreme Sonoma Coast.
Their 2019 Citrine Chardonnay is a blend of four organically farmed vineyards - Rorick Heritage, Heron Lake, Haynes, and Brosseau. Fermentation takes place via native yeasts found on the grape skins and aging occurs in neutral barrels. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Citrine is an apt name for this wine that is expressive of tropical pineapple, white tea, and lemon curd on the nose, but still possesses plenty of minerality and cut on the palate.
