The Pigeonnier vineyard has been in the Guestault family for more than five generations. Their estate extends over more than 18 hectares in the towns of St Martin le Beau and Dierre, east of Tours. Planted on the hillsides and plains, the vines are located on the river's right bank benefiting from a southern and south-eastern exposure. These varied and complex terroirs allow for the production of a diverse range of wines crafted from both young and old vines, some over 60 years of age. The 2017 Pigeonnier Montlouis Sec is 100% Chenin Blanc, locally called "Pineau de Loire," fermented and settled entirely in tank. The nose offers an immediate sense of place with aromas of crushed rock and minerality, fresh squeezed lemons and waxy green apple. This is chenin at its purest, most-refreshing-best with a core of energy and acid that leads to a pleasantly subtle, honeyed finish. Serve as a crowd-pleasing aperitif alongside a ripe and runny goat cheese, or pair with roasted fish or poultry with lots of fresh herbs as a simple weeknight comfort.
