The wines of Gachot Monot represent some of the best values on our shelves - not because they are the least expensive, but because they offer an outstanding price-to-quality ratio.  Sourcing grapes from the village of Corgoloin in the southern end of the Cote de Nuits, Damien Gachot presents a wine with the velvety character of the Cote de Beaune while maintaining the structure and finesse of the Cote de Nuits. He works the vineyards of this lesser known appellation as if they were premier cru fruit from Nuits-Saint-Georges. Damien was first saluted by the Hospices de Beaune as a young talent to be watched and Kermit Lynch has imported Domaine Gachot Monot since the 2000 vintage.
Damien and his wife Lise are the 5th generation in their family to make wine in Corgoloin, and they practice "lutte raisonnée" and sustainable farming across their 12 hectares. Lutte Raisonnée is a term that translates as measured control, basically the first phase before transitioning fully to organic viticulture. All grapes are hand harvested and vinified traditionally for 10-15 days, and this cuvée is finished in oak (20-30% new) for up to 18 months before bottling. The 2016 Gachot Monot Cote de Nuits Villages is simply delightful, achieving suppleness and approachability without sacrificing authenticity, typicity, or age-ability.  Thanks to the Gachot family dedication, this wine tastes more like Nuits-St-Georges than village Burgundy with its deep color, seductive perfume, and overall complexity and structure. Offering rich, dark red fruit and exotic spice, this 100% Pinot Noir is appropriate for any occasion and palates of varying experience. Pair it with Stachowski's rabbit sausage, cedar plank Salmon, anything with feathers, and buttery, soft ripened cow's milk cheeses.
