In 1992 the Olivier family, mother/winemaker Christine, father/vineyard manager Jean-Marie, and daughter/marketing manager Fanny, lost their original property to a highway expropriation. The family made better of a dire situation and bought and rehabilitated the 600 year old Domaine de Panisse. The Confidence Vigneronnes, or Secrets of the Winegrowers, follows many conventions of the Southern Rhone: mainly Grenache (80%), equal Syrah, and Mourvedre for the balance, no new oak, and half concrete vinification. The finished product, however, varies. In the ripe 2015 vintage Christine has tamed the wine’s tannins, pushed forward its fruit, and balanced that with acidity that keeps the wine nimble on the palate. The wine will still stand up to hearty fare, game, fowl, stews, but does so with the grace…and coquettish wink and nod.
