Domaine de Chateau du Pierreclos Bourgogne Rouge 2017
Silky tannins, plush mouthfeel, this Pinot Noir expresses a fresh and fruity quality of the ripest cherries, along with a lovely but subtle floral characteristic. It's a steal for $23. it is getting increasingly difficult to find high-quality, entry-level red Burgundy for under $30. Very often we would rather drink cru Beuajolais at this price. Anne-Francoise and Jean-Marie Pidault's silky and expressive Pinot Noir is a grand exception to that rule.
From 22-year-old Southern-facing vines in clay and limestone soil at 250 meters, Anne-Françoise and Jean-Marie craft this silky and fragrant Pinot Noir. Certified Organic since 2013, the Pidaults only use manual harvesting and sorting. The Pinot Noir grapes undergo a 3-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, then another 8-day maceration. Fermentation and 6 months of aging take place in 100% oak barrels, none of which are new. There is some light filtering before bottling.
Domaine de Chateau du Pierreclos' wine-growing estate uses organic farming methods, and is comprised of eight hectares of vineyards planted to Chardonnay in Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Pierreclos, Mâcon-Bussières and Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine. The domaine's 53 hectares of red Burgundy is 100% Pinot Noir.
