Mother (Monique) and daughter (Tessa) are rising stars in the Loire Valley with 12 out of 22 total hectares in the Savennières sub-appellation of "Roche Aux Moines", next to the famed Coulée de Serrant. They have spent the last 40 years lovingly restoring this historic estate in the heart of the region. Savennieres is located on the Western edge of the Anjou region in the Loire valley, not far from the city of Angers. The vineyards sit on hillsides overlooking the Loire river and that proximity helps to temper the cold as well as encourage ripeness and protect against springtime frosts. The soils in Savennières are predominantly schists with some sandstone and clay. They tend to produce a flinty, drier style Chenin Blanc that can age for a a long time. At Domaine Aux Moines, all work is done by hand in the vineyard, with extremely low yields. The wines are as delicate and crystalline as a jewel: gorgeous and luminous. Age worthy, for sure, this 100% Chenin is deeply enjoyable now. And don't be afraid to decant it.
