From the acclaimed 2016 vintage of Napa cabernet sauvignon, Consortium is the brainchild of a group of 7 rockstar wine professionals affectionately called the Band of Vintners. Composed of winemakers, a sommelier, wine execs and a wine importer, this group of Napa tastemakers often pool their knowledge and resources to great effect. In the case of Consortium, they sourced sustainably farmed grapes from a variety of high-quality growers in Oakville, St. Helena and Calistoga.
An ideal combination of a cool wet winter and a warm summer produced slow, balanced ripening and vibrant red fruit. A deft use of French oak for 15 months in barrel created a nuanced, fully integrated wine full of youthful exuberance, yet perfect balance.
In the glass purple and garnet reflections frame a dark crimson core. Black cherry, blackberry liqueur, fresh boysenberry and currants infuse the nose, complimented by notes of graphite and violets. On the palate, ripe plum, leather, tobacco, cedar, cocoa, subtle exotic spices, Morello cherries and a hint of bay leaf are underlined by structured acidity and fine tannins to create a wine capable of immediate enjoyment or as an excellent addition to the wine cellar.
