Margaux and value are not words normally found anywhere near each other. A rare exception is Chateau Les Barraillots, a family owned producer located between several famous classified growths in the heart of the village of Margaux. A recently inducted member of the Cru Artisans, Chateau Les Barraillots is a quite small (4.8 hectares) family owned estate on gravelly hill, giving the vineyards great drainage but also one of the highest elevations in the entire Margaux commune. Winemaker/owner Michel Brunet really knocked it out of the park in the 2015 vintage, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot 10% Cab Franc and 10% Petit Verdot is a beautiful, feminine styled claret with notes of red cherries, tobacco and spice. It is rare to have both this combination of high quality and Margaux typicity in such a value package.
