This wine is a rosé de saignée of 100% Prieto Picudo, coming from old vines planted in stony clay at high altitude (800m above sea level). Prieto Picudo is a dark-skinned grape variety that is native to León in northern Spain. The wine is macerated for two days on the skins before bleeding off (A rosé de saignée is a rosé wine made by siphoning some juice from what will later become a red wine. It is to be contrasted with an "intentional" rosé, which is made from grapes picked specifically to make a rosé.) and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel.

The maceration time yields a wine of ruby color with aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, and spice. The flavors continue on the palate with some cherry skin and licorice nuance and medium plus body. The finish is long and far from heavy or cloying. Fabulous now, but will really only begin to strut its stuff this time next year and beyond.
