The 2019 Bellevue Touraine Sauvignon Blanc offers a great deal of complexity and quality for such an accessible range. The color is bright lemon with flashes of pale gold. The aromatics are generous with crisp stone fruits and citrus fruit, with touches of oregano and mint. The fresh and complex aromatics give way to a lovely palate dominated by exotic and citrus fruits including pineapple, mango, passion fruit, and some muscat notes. The mouthfeel is ample and luscious and is followed by a long and lovely finish.
For generations, the Vauvy family has maintained stewardship of Domaine Bellevue. Winemaker Patrick Vauvy took the leadership position in 1991 and now produces high-quality moderately priced Touraine wines. The Family's 28 hectares of vines are set above the banks of the Cher River, on the deep chalky, sandy and calcareous subsoils of the south-facing slopes. Patrick continually improves the vineyards and cellars and is not afraid to experiment. Producing mostly Sauvignon Blanc, Patrick's modern approach results in wines that are outstanding and appealingly atypical for their category. Yields are controlled through pruning and thinning, only ripe fruit is harvested - he is often the last of his neighbors to start his harvest. Vinification occurs at controlled temperatures in a range of thermo-regulated stainless steel and fiberglass tanks in the estate's recently extended and updated winery.
